United States ambassador to Fiji Judith Cefkin made these comments during the opening of the FISH 2.0 business development workshop in Suva today and added that the US placed priority in promoting sustainable fisheries.

"Ensuring that fish stocks continue to help sustain ocean ecosystems and continue to populate our oceans to sustain us and sustain future generation is critical for the Pacific Islands nation and indeed, critical for the entire world," Ms Cefkin said.

Facilitator Monica Jain said the workshop gave business entrepreneurs the opportunity to build a stronger network of investors, advisors and meet other seafood companies from around the region.

Close to 30 participants from Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and other Pacific Island countries are part of the three-day workshop that ends on Thursday.
