Online Advising for Fish 2.0


Why Advise?

Fish 2.0 advisors have an opportunity to speak with and provide direct feedback to promising entrepreneurs in the sector. Advisors are assigned to ventures at Phase 3 of the competition, which means the businesses have already been deemed interesting and viable by online judges from the investor community.

Serving as an advisor for Fish 2.0 is a great way to learn about businesses in the seafood sector while sharing your expertise. Advising is done virtually. The more businesses you help, the more you can learn about the sector. The time commitment is minimal, and past advisors have found Fish 2.0 to be highly rewarding.

Two ways to get involved

The deadline to sign up as an Advisor for the 2017 Fish 2.0 Competition has passed. However, you may express your interest in advising in a future round of the competition by completing the form below.

There are 2 types of advisors in Fish 2.0

1. Business Advisors

Business Advisors must have business or investment experience. You will offer feedback and guidance to competitors covering not only their business but also how they describe it.

  • Business Advisors are needed during Phase 3, from July 19 to August 18, 2017.
  • Each advisor commits to offering a half hour of feedback to a selected business, up to 6 hours total if there is ongoing mutual interest.
  • You may advise 4 to 8 businesses. (2 to 4 hours total)
  • You will be asked to provide a short bio indicating the areas for which you can offer advice and the regions or topics that interest you.
  • You will be able to choose time slots that are convenient for you, within a 4-week time frame.
  • Advising is based on your experience. Minimal background reading is required.
  • Business Advisors who have no prior experience in the seafood sector are very welcome. Many competitor ventures need your feedback on deal structuring, marketing, communications, business models, sales strategies, and other topics that are not sector specific.
  • You may serve as both an advisor and an online judge. We will ensure that there are no conflicts of interest if you choose to do both.

2. Impact Advisors

Impact Advisors must have expertise in resource conservation, social sustainability, environmental sustainability, metrics, or communications. It is not necessary to have business or investment experience. In this important role, you will advise a seafood business in how to better incorporate and communicate social and environmental sustainability as part of its overall strategy.

  • Impact Advisors are needed during Phase 3, from July 19 to August 18, 2017.
  • Each advisor commits to offering a half hour of feedback to a selected business, up to 6 hours total if there is ongoing mutual interest.
  • You may advise 4 to 8 businesses. (2 to 4 hours total)
  • You will be asked to provide a short bio indicating the areas for which you can offer advice and the regions or topics that interest you.
  • You will be able to choose time slots that are convenient for you, within a 4-week time frame.
